源由
北美華人由於追求美好生活、遠離祖國、植根他鄉。部分華人在科技界尋求發展﹐建立良好基業。部分華人卻需要辛勤工作﹐養家糊口﹐孜孜營生。無論華人在海外的境遇是飛黃騰達﹐還是抑鬱不得志﹐或過著平淡安逸的日子﹐除了忙碌的理由外﹐就是不容易找到可以稍為豐富的中文資料地方﹐以致鮮有機會接觸沉浸中華文化典籍﹐華光中文閱覽室就是在這背景下建立。
Background
Many Chinese immigrate to North America in order to pursue a better life and stay here permanently. Some of them achieve successful in their career, while others simply work very hard to make a living. Many Chinese rarely have a chance to read Chinese materials, especially our classical literature, Chinese history, and poems, etc. It is because there are very few resources for them to read the Chinese materials. Therefore, Hua Kuang Chinese Reading Room was found in this background.
成立宗旨
華光中文閱覽室(簡稱華光)有熊大絳夫婦創辦於1981年﹐為一宣揚中華文化的非牟利組織。包括有關中華文化的書籍萬餘冊﹐數種雜誌和書刊及華語錄音帶數百集﹐以供讀者借閱, 這些讀物可增強人們對中華文化的認識﹐對歷史的了解﹐並由助於個人的修養及正確人生哲學的體會。讀物可增強人們對中華文化的認識﹐對歷史的了解﹐並由助於個人的修養及正確人生哲學的體會。
Mission
Hua Kuang Chinese Reading Room(hereinafter Hua Kuang) was founded in 1981 by Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hung with their private collection of thousands of books. It is a non-profit organization dedicated to the purpose of propagating Chinese culture among the Chinese communities around here. With more than fifteen thousand books, numerous magazines and newspapers as well as Chinese-language videotapes, readers can enhance their knowledge of Chinese culture, better understand Chinese history and improve their personal philosophical achievements.
